Loose Ends is open source and self-hosted, and support happens in the open.

Something's broken

Open an issue on GitHub. Say what you expected, what happened, and — if the engine is involved — anything relevant from ~/Library/Logs/loose-ends/. Please don't paste your personal data into an issue.

The app can't reach the engine

• Same Wi-Fi? At home, the phone finds the engine over your local network.
• Away from home, both devices need to be on your tailnet (Tailscale signed in on the Mac and the phone).
• The Mac must be awake — check the engine with curl localhost:8000/health in Terminal.
• If the app answers every tap with "pair this device", open localhost:8000/setup and tap Show a pairing code, or re-scan from the wizard at localhost:8000/setup.

Taking it off this Mac

Run ~/loose-ends/backend/deploy/uninstall.sh. It stops the engine, removes the launch agent so it won't come back at login, and deletes the menu bar app — and it keeps your data, telling you where it is. Add --everything to delete the database and your API key too, or --dry-run to see what would go without touching anything.

Setup stalled

The wizard at localhost:8000/setup is resumable — reopen it and it picks up where it left off. Every step verifies by doing, so a stuck check usually names the exact grant it's waiting for.
